For the first time, inn.wien will perform in a string quartet formation in Hall, granting the audience an 80-minute insight into the music of pioneers of the 21st century. A recurring theme of the program is, among other things, the dialogue with other cultures. Friedrich Cerha’s first string quartet bears the subtitle “Maqam”, inspired by the Arabic melodic technique, which is an important part of the composition for Cerha. Kurt Schwertsik often deals with tango in his works. He also incorporates the Argentine dance in his string quartet with bandoneon “Adieu Satie.” A special sphere is created by 70 Chords for Terry: A Meditation on String Theory by Pauline Oliveros. The US composer pays tribute to the minimalist Terry Riley, who has been searching for cross-cultural music since his beginnings. Oliveros focuses on improvisation, meditative and atmospheric qualities. Further impulses come from Tōru Takemitsu and Rebecca Saunders.
